WORD FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear IOIS members and Congress delegates,

I am delighted to welcome you all, on behalf of the executive board of the International Ocular Inflammation Society, to the 15th meeting of our Society and the 5th International Assembly of Ocular Inflammation Societies, which will be held in the beautiful and charming city of Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

I am pleased to observe that the 2019 congress would certainly be an unforgettable edition and keep all its promises. Bringing together all areas of ocular inflammation and infection respects the spirit of our Society as established by its founders. I am grateful to our local congress chair, Professor Shwu-Jiuan Sheu and the Taiwan Retina Society, for their tremendous efforts and generous hospitality, which will allow us to meet, discuss, exchange and debate on major topics of our subspecialties, in a friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere.

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge every member of the Assembly of Ocular Inflammation Societies for his active contribution to the success of the 2019 Congress. An outstanding scientific program has been set-up by 16 IOIS sections, 28 National and International Societies to update you on aspects of our field in a rapidly evolving era. All this would not have been achieved without the dedicated and invaluable help of Russell Read together with the scientific program committee members. IOIS has long been committed to education, not just through the meeting itself, but with the comprehensive course on Uveitis, organized for the second time by Quan Dong Nguyen and Carlos Pavesio.

IOIS evolves according to your expectations and our achievements depend on your continuous scientific support. The success of the congress is a result of the efforts of each person who has travelled to be here today for another extraordinary meeting with major advances in diagnostic and therapeutic management of ocular inflammatory or infectious diseases.

Yours Sincerely,

Bahram Bodaghi MD, PhD, FEBOph
President, IOIS
