| Title | A bizarre case of bilateral iris transillumination |
| Purpose | To report ocular complications associated with laser-assisted eyebrow hair removal. |
| Methods | A 45-year-old Caucasian female with no significant past ocular history presented with bilateral eye pain and mild photophobia for the last 4 days. Visual acuity was 20/20 and the anterior chamber had +3 pigmented cells in both eyes. Uveitis work up was completely negative. The patient was started on topical steroids. At her 2-week follow-up, both eyes were quiet, however multiple transillumination defects were noted in both eyes. On further questioning the patient admitted recent eyebrow epilation with alexandrite laser (755 nm).
|
| Results | Irreversible multiple transillumination defects in both eyes and blurred vision
|
| Conclusion | Laser epilation of the eyebrows may result in an irreversible damage to the iris and pigment dispersion mimicking anterior uveitis. |
