TitleInflammation and Retinoblastoma
PurposeTo study a case series of pathological evidence of inflammation in retinoblastoma eyes
MethodsDesign-A laboratory based retrospective study.
Six enucleated eyeballs of retinoblastoma (Group E RB) was studied in details out of 61 RB cases from 2002-2018. Main and lateral calottes were examined for the inflammation other than necrosis. Pre - enucleation treatment in the cases were compared with the findings.
ResultsThere were (n=5) cases of undifferentiated RB showed chronic inflammation, one (n=1) case of differentiated RB with classical rosettes and mixed reaction; (n=4) was endophytic; (n=1) was exophytic and (n=1) was diffuse RB. All patients received 6 cycles chemotherapy.
ConclusionInflammation in RB can be induced by local or systemic treatment of RB. Tumor biology itself may undergo innate immune mechanism to induce such reaction. Characteristics of most of them were chronic inflammatory cells infiltrate.
