TitlePatterns and Management of Presumed Trematode Induced Uveitis: An Egyptian Experience
Accept poster if oral is not possible ?Yes
PurposeTo demonstrate different clinical patterns of presumed trematode induced granulomatous uveitis and different management strategies
MethodsRetrospective analysis of files of all patients presenting with presumed trematode induced granulomatous uveitis in Cairo University throughout period of 2020-2024
Results* Percentages of patients presenting with each pattern of inflammation including conjunctival nodules, corneal granulomas, anterior chamber granulomas, iris nodules, intralenticular granulomas, ciliary body and peripheral retinal granulomas
*Percentages of patients with bilateral involvement, more than one granuloma in the eye
*Demographics
* Different manegement strategies used in ttt
ConclusionPatients, especially adolescents, swimming in brackish waters of river nile tributaries develop unil or bil intraocular granulomatous inflammation in any part of the eye from anteriorly in the conjunctiva to posteriorly in the ciliary body and peripheral retina with serious consequences if left untreated. Patients seem to respond well to steroids (regional and systemic) with surgical debridement/ excision/ wash being a fast effective steroid sparing regimen for these patients
