TitleClinical profile and treatment outcomes in presumed tubercular serpiginoid choroiditis (SC) at a tertiary eye hospital in South India
PurposeTo report the clinical profile, treatment outcome of SC from a tertiary eye care centre in South India
MethodsSixteen eyes of 11 patients diagnosed as SC in 2018-21patients underwent detailed work up for tubercular uveitis to rule out close differentials. They were treated with anti-Koch’s therapy and oral steroids. Follow up ranged from 9 to 19 months
ResultsWith 8 males and 3 female, the mean age was 32.7 (range:15-53 years). The lesions were multifocal in 13(81%), solitary in 3(18%). Disc neovascularization (1), disc edema(3) and vitreous haemorrhage(3) were seen.MPB64 and IS6110 as tubercular antigens were positive by Polymerase Chain Reaction in 2 patients. Treatment helped in resolution of choroidal lesions and visual improvement in 12 of 16 eyes(75%) with nil recurrences
ConclusionEarly diagnosis, prompt intervention with titrated tapering corticosteroid along with Anti-Koch’s therapy guided by imaging leads to better visual outcomes eliminating recurrences in SC.
