TitleHigh resolution imaging of ocular inflammation by flood illumination adaptive optics ophthalmoscopy: a comparison with Multimodal Retinal Imaging
PurposeTo use both methods of imaging SD-OCT and flood illumination adaptive optics ophthalmoscopy (AOO) to study features of retinal vessels during the course of posterior/ intermediate uveitis.
MethodsVenous/ arteries diameters in 13 eyes (12 patients) with posterior uveitis of various causes were quantitatively analyzed by AOO and SD-OCT. Six eyes of 5 of those patients had quantitative data follow-up. AOO measurements were done with AODetect using the en face image and the SD-OCT images with ImageJ using the cross sectional image
ResultsThe caliber vessels measurements by SD-OCT did not correlate with those obtained by corresponding AOO. SD-OCT was unreliable when measurements of retinal vessels alone because of the ambiguity of the tissues boundaries in edematous retina and lower resolution, however the overall vertical measure including underlying retina was promising.
ConclusionBoth methods are amenable to standardized imaging for the quantitative, for AOO, and semiquantitative, for SD-OCT, for clinical evaluation of uveitis.
